Immediately inviting, the nose opens like a summer’s day, ripe fruit, red current, strawberries and rose petals. On the palate the wine delivers crisp raspberry acidity alongside a succulent and dense mouth feel. Precise tannins give a refreshing lift to this well-structured Merlot. Built to be immediately accessible as well as rewarding with medium cellaring (5-10 years), this good natured wine will pair well with a wide variety of foods.

Wine Profile

Vineyard Notes
Merlot: From our mid-valley Oakville Cross Road Estate and two small vineyards near the flank of the Mayacamas range in Oakville. Cabernet Sauvignon: Selected from two small blocks, one adjacent to our Rutherford winery, and one in Yountville. Petit Verdot: Sourced from a small block in the Oak Knoll district just south of Yountville on the valley’s eastern edge.

Merlot has remained at the core Swanson Vineyards’ identity since Clarke Swanson purchased the estate vineyard in 1985. The clay-loam soil in the 75-acre Oakville vineyard and close relationships with several of Napa’s best growers are the most vital factors in our quest to make Napa Valley’s premier Merlot.

Vintage Notes
In the 2013 vintage, we experienced moderate temperatures and dry conditions in all of our vineyard locations. All wines from the vintage, both red and white, benefitted from a long, cool growing season.
