Not all Napa Valley Chardonnays are created equal. A stick of viscous oaky butter, this wine is not. Swanson Chardonnay offers proof that this French-inspired classic has a comfy home in Carneros. Aromas of guava and Meyer lemon zest are evident in the nose. The body is surprisingly full as the wine envelops the palate in luxurious wild honey, peach, apple and lemon-scented flavors. A downright seductive Swanson original.

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
This 2012 Chardonnay evokes the style of a good French Chablis – excellent varietal character, yet with a modest alcohol. Aromas of ripe guava, melon and Meyer lemon are present. This full-bodied wine coats the palate, showing flavors of wild honey, peach, apple and citrus. The firm acidity of this wine will assure excellent drinkability through at least 2016. Try matching this wine with scallops or grilled chicken.
Vineyard Notes
Thirty-six percent of the fruit was sourced from the oldest block of Chardonnay in our Oakville estate vineyard, where the clay loam soil favors slow, gradual ripening. The balance of 64% used in making the 2012 Swanson Napa Valley Chardonnay, was grown at the renowned Beckstoer Carneros Lake Vineyard. The cool air flowing up from San Pablo Bay to the Carneros region of Napa Valley ensured that our crisp, ripe, golden Chardonnay grapes had ample time to come to full maturity prior to harvest.
Winemaker Notes
2012 was just about a picture-perfect growing season in Napa Valley for all varietals. Generous rainfall in March and even temperatures in April and May were ideal for budbreak and bloom. Long, warm days and cool, often foggy nights throughout the season led to a late-September harvest for this variety. Yield was just slightly above normal, and the fruit exhibited bright aromatics and acid balance. The grapes were gently cold-pressed immediately upon arrival at the winery. The final blend was 100% Chardonnay.

Recently served the 2012 Chardonnay at a dinner party to accompany Lobster bisque. Of the four different wines served with dinner that night, it was the favorite. Great with the food (and by itself too). Great flavor without being too much of anything. Agree with the winery's assessment of it being more "french" in style as the fruit flavors were there and excellent but still restrained.
