Notes of sweet strawberry, rhubarb and allspice are apparent on the nose. In
the mouth, the wine is ripe and exuberant, with well-proportioned, tannins. Sweet
black cherry, black plum and a hint of anise are present in the persistent finish.
Try pairing this wine with grilled pork tenderloin or a rich Bolognese veal, pork
and mushroom sugo.
All fruit for the 2010 Napa Valley Sangiovese was grown in one small block at the
Antica Vineyard in the Atlas Peak Appellation where rocky, alluvial soils keep the
vines small and the fruit concentrated in flavor and aroma.
The 2010 season began with heavy March rains and a cool spring, followed by
enough warm weather in May to ensure an excellent fruit set. July and August
were cool, with very few heat spikes. September was relatively cool, resulting in
an extended period of final maturation. The Sangiovese reached full ripeness in
mid-October when it was hand-harvested in the cool morning hours on October
22nd. The final blend is 100% Sangiovese.
